Soul loss may be expressed by a person as feeling or thinking that something is missing, they don’t feel whole or they are empty inside and they don’t know how to get it back, though they have tried other therapies or intervention strategies. Behavioral health intervention doesn’t heal soul loss. There are wounds to the soul due to experiences in the person’s life that cause a part of their essence to be shut off to them, or lost to them in some way.
At times, someone may make an erroneous, unconscious bargain to give a piece of their soul in exchange for what is perceived as necessary to their survival. It is important to understand that these decisions usually are not consciously made by the reasoning brain. They often occur without a conceptual understanding of the bargain being made. This is a process that our Limbic brain activates for survival propose. Additionally, a person normally does not remember when a piece of their soul was taken or “lost”, they just feel it without conceptual understanding.
Traditionally, it is accepted that only Healers initiated into a Shamanic tradition and trained in the application of the soul retrieval ceremony are qualified to perform soul retrievals. It is recommended that others not attempt this procedure. The function and responsibility of the Healer is to know where to journey to the most appropriate spiritual landscape for retrieving the energy of the person’s missing soul or essence so it may be retrieved and brought back. I have experienced multiple retrievals where the soul pieces where waiting for the person to align and heal so that they could return.
Soul Retrieval Ceremony is a complicated healing process that brings positive outcomes to the person mentally, emotionally and physically, and often takes more than one session to accomplish.
Power Animal Retrieval
Power animals are guardian spirits, similar to guardian angels. We all have them, whether or not we are consciously aware of them. Children are more aware than adults are, and we see this reflected in their strong attachment to toy animals and pets. Many indigenous people believe that childhood cannot be survived without the guardianship of these spirits. They protect us, keep us full of power, health and enthusiasm. Sometimes a power animal leaves suddenly. When this happens, the person becomes disempowered and the result is misfortune and/or illness. The services of a shamanic healer can retrieve the power animal for the client and return it to the client in this reality. Specific symptoms which indicate the need for a power animal retrieval include repeated misfortune/accidents, chronic and debilitating illness, depression and, in extreme cases, a lack of will to live or thrive.
Most people have at least one spirit helper in animal form. As a rule, these helpers are present whether we are consciously aware of them or not. They provide protection, assistance, wisdom, direction and companionship. In a shamanic worldview, the individual’s personal power and physical vitality is a gift from these helpers, hence the term “power animals”. These spirits generally take the form of undomesticated animals. When one — for whatever reason — leaves the company of a person, another power animal usually appears to take its place. However, if that does not happen, the person may experience a loss of personal power which might manifest as serious illness, emotional malaise, extraordinary bad luck, personal crisis or some other noticeable way.
A healer addresses this loss of power by journeying into the spirit world to discover an animal spirit that had previously been their client’s companion. The healer then beseeches it to return to its human friend. If the animal agrees, the healer escorts it back. After such a retrieval the client may experience a resurgence of power, health or effectiveness. Retrieving a power animal is a fundamental way to retrieve a person’s innate, instinctual energies, of re-spiriting a person, re-integrating their core energies and bringing them a true ally for healing, for life-guiding and for relationship.
